S10: High Literary Inquisitorios

We interview victims (SUSPECTS??) of book theft, kick some cultist butt, and have a really unsettling experience with Charm Person.

We go to the River District and visit Aya Glenmiir, the first on our list. She is a wizard who has a monkey named Bop. Her stolen book was titled “The Weave: A collection of impractical observations”. Upon inspecting the room where she kept the book hidden, we discover crowbar marks on the window frame. Aya also reveals to us that several of her spell scrolls were stolen.

Then we visit a paladin (?) named Marten. His stolen book was a personal memoir of Ren detailing fights with dragons. Tyener learns that Martin is part of the Order of the Gauntlet, who fight evil. At Tyener’s request, he agrees to send him literature to learn about it. We tell him we are staying at The Beached Leviathan.

Then we visit Agin Lamarck, who turns out to only be pretending at being a lord. His stolen book was a thick book of lineages. It is revealed that the Lamarck family died out during the spellplague 100 years ago. We tell Agin that we will keep his secret and leave.

On our way back to the Beached Leviathan, we see an elf who beckons us into an alleyway. We are then ambushed by him and three halflings. After routing them all in a fight, Kiya casts Charm Person on the elf to learn that his name is Saures. We interrogate Saures and learn that he was hired by a member of The Cult of the Dragon, who want to bring undead dragons back, to stop us. He reveals that members carry a special trinket to signify their membership and seems fanatical about his belief in the cult.

Saures is carrying a note that says:

“Just get it done Saures. If they find me, then the last four months have been a total waste. Ensure that the Whisperer’s faith in us was not ill-placed. —B”

(Saures says the Whisper is their leader.)

Kiya and Tyener are against killing Saures but know that if we just let him go, he will tell his contact everything that we know and possibly even come after us again. So, Kiya convinces Saures that we are his friends, and were sent to test him. We heal him enough to walk with us to the Pious Chapterhouse, where we leave him under Aleida’s care for healing/conversion. He trustingly allows Kiya to tie him up and realizes she’s betrayed him as we leave. Suuuuper uncomfortable. Then we return to the Beached Leviathan.

Note: Microsoft Word caused me to lose all of my notes for this session. I’m real sad about that. Will be using Google Docs to make sure that never happens again.
