We kill the mimic couch. +30g found in couch cushions (+10g for Kiya). The painting of the moon is nonmagical, but looks like someone has kissed it (???). We pull it of the wall and notice that there is a shadow of a smaller painting beneath. When we ask Clatter where the smaller painting is, he points to the door behind him, leading to the library. We go through.
Library. Filled w/books and a reading desk in the center. Kiya notices a shelf with books missing on astronomy. There are books on the table in the middle: Planes in Planes and sun/moon. We also find Siegfried’s spell book, which contains illusory script, knock, mirror image, shatter, sending.We find Siegfried’s journal that tells about his studies on the secrets of the moon, references tempered glass of the dressing mirror, and telescope, studying the sky.
Clatter shows us a painting leaning against a book shelf that matches the empty space in the sitting room. It was a painting of the manor but something has left rending tears in it. Vistra inspected it and concluded that the tears were not made by a natural animal. We ask Clatter if it was Siegfried that moved the painting — he signals no. We ask if whoever moved the painting could still be around — he signals yes. Kiya picks up the spell book, the journal, and the Planes on Planes book.
Bathroom. Kiya washes hands.
Workshop. Six mechanical constructs, automatons, line the wall, and on the opposite wall there are wooden cabinets with components. One automaton is awake, and is dusting its friends. When it sees us, it starts to turn its friends on and they attack us.
Kiya +1 tinkers tools from the workshop. In the cabinet we find an unidentified stone labeled “Moon Shard” which Kiya picks up too. We find a small slip of parchment on the workbench, with the remnants of a poem on it.
Short rest: spent 1 hit die, read Planes on Planes. Kiya notices that the book is marked up in Celestial, crossing out words and images. Kiya can’t read the language but it has been written crudely, probably not by Siegfried. In his journal, Siegfried tells how he built a telescope and pointed it towards the moon, and thought he saw something. He mentions that he got a souvenir (from the moon maybe?). On one of the last pages, there are some words: “It’s watching me.”
Greenhouse. Full of plants in pots, and sort of overgrown. There is a magical light source focused on the center of the room, creating a circle of moonlight. Kiya hears a giggle when she passes a bush, and notices in the upper boughs of a bush there is a dense shaking area. She offers it some bread from her rations and gets some bubbles blown out in reply. A pixie pops out. We know that pixies are typically neutral good creatures that are magical and protective. When we ask her about the monster, she calls it an Oni and says she hides from it so it leaves her alone.
Oni (Oh-ni) – Magic type creature, v powerful, mythical.
Pixie is named Ray, like sunshine. She recites a rhyme for us, the complete version of the scraps we found on parchment.
Lock the door, blow out the light;
The hungry oni haunts the night.
Hide and tremble, little one;
The oni wants to have some fun.
We hold the moon shard in the circle of moonlight and it glows blue.
Bedroom. Bed unmade, clothes in wardrobe. There is a large dressing mirror in the corner, covered by a sheet. Kiya pulls sheet off mirror and looks into it. The mirror has a circular hole missing, we assume repurposed by sigfried for the telescope. Out of the corner of her eye, Kiya’s reflection winks at her. Her reflection starts to climb out of the mirror.
Kiya freaks the fuck out and casts Scorching Ray at her double, which is casting her own spells back at her. Bad Kiya laughs and gestures at the mirror, welcoming us, and seems unhurt by the damage we have done. Tyener has an idea and hits the mirror instead, shattering it. Bad Kiya screams but seems to take damage now, and we finally kill her.
Short rest, Kiya Arcane Recovery, also minor breakdown because that fight was freaky asf and Bad Kiya scared her.
