S04: Just perfectly normal things at the Alchemist’s crib

We set off an alarm but get the loot anyway, Kiya lights more stuff on fire, we meet the alchemist.

We take a long rest in the room with the well to regain lost hit points and hit die. We wake smelling icky because, again, Kiya ain’t got no prestidigiblammoblam.

Kiya searches the eye room and sees an eye that doesn’t look like the others. She casts fire bolt and reduces it to a blackened orb. She kicks it in frustration and a hidden door opens.

We just… we suck at traps guys

We find a chest at the end of a hallway with a rusty iron gate in front of it. We are able to get the gate open but set off an alarm. We grab the chest and retreat to the fountain room. We open it and find 3 obsidian stones, a spell scroll, and a potion of healing and 50 GP. (+16GP for Kiya).

We go through the door on the eye room to see an empty hallway. Kiya Detect Magic but inconclusive. We go through a door at the end of the hallway and discover an unnaturally dusty room with a barrel in the corner and stairs up. We take the stairs and emerge into a similarly dusty room with the body of a cleric in the center. He has a symbol of a heart and a sheathe of wheat.

Oh my god so much dust

We are attacked by two mephits. Kiya, with knowledge of planes, knows these are dust mephits. They can be made of dust, stone, water, or other materials. Evil, malicious, and weak to fire. Kiya Burning Hands finishes them off.

Curio cabinets: shells, fossils, preserved insects and organs. The mephits dropped nothing. The body only had 14s so Kiya didn’t want it.

Through the door is a hallway of 6 paintings, covered by cloths. She looks at two of them. #1: barren wasteland with holes. #2: parched desert. There are faint whispers while they are uncovered, too faint and garbled to understand. Kiya senses that there is magic, extraplanar and from far away, not in the same room.

The next room is the laboratory, filled with bottles. There is an alembic sitting on a table. Kiya fills six vials with various unidentified liquids in the area (+ 6 vials unidentified liquid).

Vials begin to fly across the room and hit us, doing fire, acid, and poison damage. Kiya determines that the source of the vials is the alembic on the table. She picks up the alembic, throws it on the ground, and it shatters. A face inside it dissipates. We’re pretty sure this was the alchemist.

Maybe we can shake it like a polaroid

Workbench: 5 flasks of colored liquids arranged in a line. (1) healing potion (2) healing potion (3) green liquid (4) red liquid (5) translucent blue liquid with a tiny wizard floating in it. We uncork it and release Amelia, who thinks the last 20 years was a week.

+1 healing potion, unidentified red and green potions for Kiya

We find a secret room with a desk and a journal, which we take. It begins with a lucid man’s journey for wild magic but begins to detail increasingly crazy experiments on extraplanar creatures and alchemical descriptions of suspending people. His dream was to live forever, and though he was able to make Amelia live forever, she was asleep. He plans to try tomorrow and that was the last entry.

We try to comfort Amelia, who has more questions than we can answer, and agree to help her remove the bodies of her companions from this place.

There is a box of items in the Alchemist’s room, which we take.
